The Fate of Soldier Havlík or we fought under Husák Jaroslav Bálek

Mostly humorous stories from the lives of university students performing basic military service in socialist Czechoslovakia, whose task was to eavesdrop on the American army in West Germany. It was during the onset of so-called normalization after the occupation of the country by Warsaw Pact troops, a period when the atmosphere in society was gradually beginning to change. This, of course, also applied to the army. On the one hand, military service was taken very seriously, and therefore compliance with military regulations was strictly enforced. On the other hand, it was something like theater, or perhaps more accurately comedy, as was perhaps everything in society at the time. Even professional soldiers nodded in agreement with the policies of the Communist Party, but many also thought differently. Everyone pretended to follow regulations that they often considered nonsensical, but they kept that to themselves. How do our heroes cope with the pitfalls of military drill, training in traditional activities, alarms, deployments, and political indoctrination in this situation? Readers will learn things they had no idea about before, and they will also be quite entertained. That is the goal of this book.
